heni30
Any ideas how to make this grooved wall (or buy)? I think ten tile-able - 1 inch - grooves - then repeat - would do the trick. Groove edges need to be irregular and random. You can do it 2d but then you don't get the realistic shadow effect my client is after. Probably a 4 foot tile-able segment would work. If anyone would like to do it for pay that would be fine. (pm) Thanks! Edited March 17, 2016 by heni30
John Dollus
sweep a full height section profile then add a couple noise modifiers (1 large and 1 tight) to get the natural edge effect.
heni30
Thanks. The large noise is doing a good job but all the bends are happening at the same place. How do I randomize the edges?
Francisco Penaloza
try mixing maps or use a composite map with different noise at different scales. I am pretty sure that a displacement will do the effect too.
heni30
This is what a crude generic test photo map looks like. The col that this is going on is right in the foreground and this guy is very anal. It seems like you would need to spend some time carefully drawing the map or find a wall (highly improbable) that you could take a good photo of. Chris MacDonald
Create a gradient map to create the grooves, then use a bercon distortion map to warp/bend/add noise to it?
Scott Schroeder
Have you searched the web? 3dsky has quite a few wall panels that are similar, some of them are even free. Even if you had to buy one, the price on that site is far cheaper than most. http://3dsky.org/3dmodels/show/3d_paniel_line_1
heni30
Thanks Scott, Yeah a search for "grooved wall" only turned up some generic turbosquid stuff. Thanks for the link - definitely has possibilities - guy has his email plastered everywhere. Edited March 19, 2016 by heni30
