andrewtejeda1
Hello all, I am currently having an issue with the v-ray reflections element. I have an interior scene and to create more realistic reflections, all of the windows in my scene have double glazed windows (Solid geometry, not thin faces, and no bump for the sake of render speed). As far as the beauty pass and alpha goes, everything is in order; however, I cannot get the second layer of reflections to appear in my reflection element. Only the the reflections from the inner glass panel appear. The reason I need it is for compositing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! michaelgolden
By default, any refractive material in vray will be set to "Color only" in the Affect channels pull down within the refract section of the VRayMtl. As a result, all you see is the first set of reflections in the RawReflection Element. If you want to see both reflections, you have two options. One, you can set the "Affect Channels" pull down to "All Channels", in which case you'll get both reflections but you will also get the Refractive Input as well, that is, the stuff beyond the glass. If you just want the two reflections, then you have to separate the two panes, either through a multi-sub-object or actually splitting them into two objects, and then make sure the inner pane of glass has a glass material with Affect Channels set to 'All Channels' and the outer pane of glass has a glass material with Affect Channels set to 'Color Only.' I hope that helps.
Chris MacDonald
It's because the second reflection is viewed through a refraction. Check your refraction render element.
andrewtejeda1
Thanks Chris! I just found that in a recent test, but it still creates an issue in that I am unable to composite in only the reflections.
Francisco Penaloza
I think you may need to post this in Chaosgroup forum, Vlado is usually there and he may give you some input. To me V-Ray is treating the second panel of glass as refraction, and not a second level of reflection. After the camera ray cross the first panel everything behind is treated as refraction
andrewtejeda1
Thank you Micheal and Francisco. I'll give your multi-mat method a try before I post to chaos groups forums. Thanks again for the help!
