pauljcox
Hi all. Quick question here - I had a look over the forum and couldn't find a definitive answer, sorry if this has already been covered 100 times! I've been a single PC guy for a while now, and done all of my rendering over night, but feel it's finally time to invest in a second machine purely for rendering. I use 3ds Max and Vray. My question is whether I need to buy a new Max & Vray license for the new PC, or if I can install my current version on the new PC as it's just going to be a "slave" machine. Again, apologies if this has already been answered to death. Thanks.
R.S
Correct, you install 3DS as a slave and all of your required (vray, forest pack etc) plugins as a render node on the new PC.
Scott Dombrowski
We do this all the time in house. Like R.S. said, Max gets installed on the render node, but does not get activated. It does not need a license to be used for distributed rendering or network rendering (Backburner, Deadline, etc.).
pauljcox
Cheers for the advice guys, I appreciate it. I'm thinking of something along these lines for the PC: http://www.boxxtech.com/guru/renderpro-2?GuruSessionId=e1908c8a-3a31-4ba2-9229-435ac398a049&ModelNumber=R9120&ConfigName=renderPRO-2-1&referrer=/solutions/media-entertainment/3d-studio-max
