haydnallbutt
Hi All, I am trying to use VRayHDRI for the first time. I am using 3ds Max 2014 and Vray 2.40.04. I have watched various you tube tutorials as well as forum posts eg: In all cases, according to the instructions, in order to use VRayHDRI you are supposed to take the following steps: Select VRay as your rendererAdd a VRay dome light to your sceneOpen the material editorSelect a new material slotClick on the "get material" buttonSelect "VRayHDRI" from the V-Ray materials list That is as far as I can go unfortunately since VRayHDRI does not appear in my list of materials. Below is a screen capture of the VRay Materials menu from the first You Tube Video above: I can clearly see the VRayHDRI material, which the tutorial tells you to select. The only problem is when I got to the exact same menu via the exact same method I get the following menu (I have highlighted my V-Ray materials menu in yellow): Note that there is no VRayHDRI. I can not find any example on any forum of anyone having this problem so I am at a loss. Do I have to activate some functionality in V-Ray before the VRayHDRI material will show up? When I look at the documentation for my installed version of VRay I can quite clearly see that it should have the VRayHDRI material: But I just can't find it. Can anyone remember back to when they first installed VRay. Was there anything you had to do to get HDRI working? I am at my wits end and of course have a project due for which I was hoping to use HDRI in VRay Thanks heaps in advance for your help!
haydnallbutt
Oh my gosh. Thank you to this Vimeo video: They have a different way of adding a VRay HDRI dome light. Create a VRay Dome light. In the Dome light modify panel, click the Texture button and a V-Ray menu pops up but this time it includes the VRayHDRI option which didn't appear when you go in via the Material Editor. Once you have selected the VRayHDRI material in this Texture button, you drag the texture button up onto a material slot and then select the HDRI image to be used as normal. Even though I solved my own problem, I wanted to put this answer here just in case anyone else has this problem.
Nicolai Bongard
There is a difference between a material and a map. Maps usually go into materials. In your first post you posted a picture of your material editor, apparently without a VrayHDRI. VrayHDRI is a map, so you are looking in the wrong section. However, on the bottomn of that picture is a tab with maps. If you expand that and go into vray maps, the VrayHDRI should be listed.
