TomD_Arch
I may need to get some cars, today or tomorrow, for a project I am working on. Does anyone have a strong opinion on the Dorsch(15 cars/ $150) or others cars out there? I'd like to be able to stay in that price range. so $10/car. heni30
Check out Evermotion vol. 132 I was very happy with it - 50 cars for $120 euros. Some of the colors are a little bright but you can tweak them. Dorsch is very high quality but it might be overkill depending on your project. WalMart or luxury townhouse bldg? Large public transit hub, for one of the countries largest public transit systems.

TomD_Arch
So can I download the files and start using right away, or do i have to wait for the disc to arrive?

Chris MacDonald
I've never been a fan of Dosch Design stuff - always something a bit cartoon-like about it. Evermotion cars I've used have been excellent, as are ones from Squir

Evermotion cars I've used have been excellent, as are ones from Squir Evermotion do the medium-poly collections in the Archmodels series, plus they do higher quality collections in the HDModels Cars (recommended). Viz-People do a volume, that is good. Never heard of Squir. Looking at the site, it's weird because it all looks promising, but the renders of the cars aren't great at all (HDRI needed), so you cant really tell for sure. But I guess if Chris has tried them for us... Chris can you get photoreal out of these, without lots of tweaking the shaders? Personally, I'd rather have a few really nice models than loads of mediocre ones. I guess you generally get what you pay for. A collection will be better value of course. Ernest Burden III
Usually there are only a few cars that really matter in a rendering, being forward and 'featured' (remember about the red Ferrari ban) and then other quickly become 'fabric' and do not need high detail. So you can spend more on the few close ones and use decent pre-made's for the rest. Obviously animation is different, as you see more of more cars. TomD_Arch
Went with the evermotion! I like the way they are put together and I know this sounds crazy, but like how I can switch the license plate image easily. Download was available as soon as the payment went through. i was a little confused at first unpacking the material maps. There are three files of them all zipped up. I unpacked the first and then couldn't seem to get 2 or 3 open. Then I realized you only need to unpack the one, and the other two are fine staying zipped. Will be doing a few tests today to see how they affect render time.

Don't be fooled by a bad white room HDR, that can make or break a car render. Besides, they will look a lot better in an environment. However, the couple I looked at were Max and MentalRay models, so you may need your own shaders anyway.

That was my point really; you don't want to pay and spend time tweaking shaders etc. It should be good to go. Also, if they don't have the foresight to render cars with decent HDRI, then it doesn't bode well for the brains behind the modelling either! First impressions and all that.
