maximilianwarwitz
Hey guys I´ve got a new problem with my recent project..The thing I´m modeling is made of metal but for some reason the material doesn´t look like metal..I´ve already tried different metal materials but none of them looks good...The material looks rather beige than metallic. Any ideas how to fix it? Don´t be surprised about the shots. I still have to adjust some things for the final rendering like the perspective The materials I used for it can be found on http://www.vray-materials.de/. They´re called - Stainless Steel Brushed by dc0110 - Stainless StYLe - Steel plate dark Edited May 6, 2016 by maximilianwarwitz
Nicolai Bongard
The thing about reflective surfaces is that they usually only look better when they have something interesting to reflect. So you may want to add a more interesting environment (if only for reflections) or a more interesting light setup. I didnt bother finding your materials, but a good starting point could be grey diffuse, reflection glossiness of about 0.9, set your brdf to ward, your reflection IOR to something like 20 and some light grey value in your reflection. But as i stated it wont look all that interesting if you do not have anything interesting for it reflect.
maximilianwarwitz
I´ve done the things you told me. Still not looking like metal but it´s looking better now. I guess I have to play a bit more with the values. Thanks a lot!
Devin Johnston
Keep in mind that many of the materials on that website look great in their sample scene but once you get them into a real scene they usually need to be adjusted. Nicolai is right about the environment being a very important part of making materials look correct, I suggest you use an interior HDRI .
