Linear workflow

If Nuke price turns you off (and it does >__>) you can still try the free clone Natron. It is way slower than Nuke, especially with floating point images, but for still images this is something one can bear with. And its tools are real clones of Nuke. Even the shortcuts) A gamma 0.454 at the end of the Natron flow will get you where you want.

As a side note: it is not a big deal if the passes combined together look different from the Beauty pass. You are comping them with the very aim of Changing that Beauty, edit each pass separately and achieve a very different look. Having the passes matching the beauty is definitely not the ultimate point of compositing) If they match - cool, if they don't - whatever.

Bring in your MtlID and ObjectID as 8bit images. You dont need more range for selecting these passes.

How do I achieve this. When bringing a 8bit vraymatte or ObjID into 32bit exr file in photoshop I must convert them to 32bit by which I still cannot select those parts.

In afterfx with color key I can select the color range, but hue&saturation for example is changing entire image not just selected part

Hey Darko, sorry, I'm late to this thread. I can certainly help you understand the process better and explain a REAL LWF. I've researched this topic quite a lot in the past and can give you a few different ways to achieve the correct results. I'm assuming that you'd like to know the most efficient way to achieve a correct looking output regardless of the maps being input as textures... It's probably best to chat about this over Google Hangouts, that way I can reply quicker than doing it over the thread. Also, the tutorial James wrote is based on a technique that I showed him when we first started working together... It's probably by far the most effective way, but needs some in depth explanation on what's actually happening... You can reach me on Google Hangouts at zac.arato76@gmail.com

Cheers, Zac

Hey, I can help you with this. Yes, I REALLY understand a real linear workflow. There are mutiple ways of acheiving various results, however, putting your workspace into a Gamma 2.2 corrected workspace by using a LUT system is not the correct way. Please feel free to contact me directly and I can help you understand and develop a better workflow for using a Linear system.
