markf
Hi, I am using 3ds max 2016 with vray 3.40.02 on Windows 7 64 bit. works great and no problems. Now I'm trying to use the latest 3ds max 2017 with vray 3.40.02 and it crashes on render completion every time. This is true at low res or high res. Also crashes regardless of save file selected or not. I completed a scene in 2016 and it renders fine. If I open that scene in 2017 it crashes as soon as the render completes. Anyone else having this trouble? Any suggestions for trouble shooting? Thanks for any help.
Sketchrender
Has anybody being using it and is it safe yet. Can I ask, why I have to pay for a subscription to a product in Febuary of every year , and then it is not usable until October. Should I not be able to pay in October, as it's useless till then. markf
thanks for bumping my thread! I was wondering if it was just me having troubles. I did get some replies on the chaos group forum. A lot of people there seem to be having trouble with multiple aspects of max 2017. I was directed to the Autodesk forum and there are a lot of users reporting problems and un-usability there as well. Just not as evident here on cg architect I guess.
Francisco Penaloza
Mark, I guess here(cgarchitects) people are a little more cautious regarding software upgrades. At my office we have access to Max 2017 , but I have not updated because the same problems you mentioned that are all over the internet. I usually wait a few months before move all our software to production. Having said all these, I have tried at home, Max 2017 and V Ray 3, and I don't have problems. but I only have small scenes at home nothing production like. markf
Thank you Francisco. I also usually wait to update, at least until there is a first service pack and a new/compatable vray version available. That's what I did this time. I have lost track of how many upgrades I've done. I have upgraded to each new release starting with 3D Studio 4.0 (dos). Usually has worked out OK. I seem to recall having to wait about a year to be able to use one or two other releases. This 2017 seems to be in that category, at least on my system. It's been a long time since I've seen this type of serious un-usability problem. I am concerned that somehow my system just doesn't work with 2017. Even a scene with only one object, poof/crash/gone on render completion with vray. Sketchrender
Mark Just to let you know. I am using 2017 and the Latest Vray and it seems fine for me. Renders out fine and saves as usual. My Spec, Dell Precision 7910, 4G GC, and 64 GB of Ram.
markf
thank you philip. That info helps and I'm suspecting that my particular system has some unique hiccup that 2017 doesn't like. rats. I'm going to try an un-install - re-install and see what happens. I'll post update here after re-install
markf
After re-install the crash on render completion seems to have been fixed. I'll do some more testing and hopefully start using Max 2017
mi75
I upgraded to 17 a few months ago and have a few issues. - After shutting max down I get a crash error, no harm to the file. - Sometimes I lose the ability to zoom in a maximized view port and have to go to another view port before returning and then I can zoom again. - I used to be able to use edit mesh on a group but now I can't. Not sure if that a 17 issue or not. - If I send a file to backburner and I have another max session open it crashes. If I close the other session it works fine. markf
the can't add edit poly to group of edit polys is a known bug. I use that quite often. My last experience with 2017 I could not add an edit poly to a set of grouped polys.... but I could add an edit mesh to the grouped polys.

There are many more modifiers missing from the dropdown when you want to apply them to a group
