Quadro K4000 + GTX?

Recommended Posts

Hello a few years ago Dimitris; helped me with my first and only computer build, it worked perfect but died on me recently. I cannot find a LGA 2011 processor of motherboard in thailand, so basically i dont know if the motherbord is dead or the processor. it is almost impossible to find a lga 2011 mobo for sale and i dont want to spend that money and then find out it is the processor or vice versa.

I am stuck now with an nvidia K4000, i want to pair it now with a gtx card or any that you can recommend me for the new build. if you think that is a good way to go

i am looking at this for the moment from pcfoo:

• Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.20 GHz)

• Cooler Master V650 Semi-Modular 650W Power Supply 80 PLUS Gold

• Asus Z97-A Socket LGA1150 / Z97 / 4 x DDR3 / 4 x SATA 6Gbs / ATXNoctua

• NH-D15 Dual Tower CPU Air Cooler

• Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 Non-ECC DIMM Blue

• Samsung 250GB 2.5″ SSD 850 Evo Series

• Asus nVidia Turbo GeForce GTX960 4GB GDDR5 OC (TURBO-GTX960-OC-4GD5)

Plus the Nvidia Quadro K4000 hope you gus can help

Thanks

Take notice that the Z97-A (s1150) will not work with the 6700K (s1151). You can mount a 4790K on a Z97, but you will need a Z170 or another s1151 mobo for the 6700K.

Unless you can get a crazy good deal on a 4790K + Z97 mobo, or you have to keep your DDR3, I would go 6700K, but I see you are trying to buy new DDR3 altogether, so forget about it. For the 6700K you should go for a Z170 + DDR4. No need to over-do it with ram speed, much like the DDR3 1866 was good enough, anything in the 2133 - 2666 range will work great, although there are often offers on faster RAM that ends up costing the same.

The rest looks fine, you know your way now.

I would try to find a used 970 if I wanted to compute with it, it should be notably better than the 960 and many people will be dropping them now in the used market to make way for the 1060 & 1070.

For the SSD, if you are going for a 250 EVO SATA, take a look in the M.2 EVO...most Z170 boards do have a M.2 slot for a 2280 drive.

It is not a NVme / PCIe super-speed M.2 drive like the 950 pro, so it is still limited by the SATA oriented controller despite its M.2 format, but the M.2 EVO still delivers results better than the SATA III Samsung EVO drives, and closer to what a 850 Pro Sata drive would do.

It is all down to $ of course: in the US the 850 EVO M.2 is pretty much the same price as a 850 EVO SATA, so there isn't much to scrutinize against. If in your country the price difference doesn't make it worthwhile, don't sweat it.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks Dimitri your help is once again much appreciated it.

We are opening a small architecture studio here in Thailand and need to build a few workstations to work on Auto Cad, Revit and 3Ds Max

At the moment i am building 2 and 2 more in the next weeks. The ones being built now are as follow:

CPU Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S for PC 1 - PC 2 i will use Cooler Master Seidon 120v from old computer

Mobo: ASUS H170-PRO-GAMING.

Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 316GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200

VGA: ASUS STRIX GTX970-DC2OC Pc2 quadro K4000 from old computer

PSU: I need advice of how many W, 750w would be ok? what brand? bronze, gold?

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

HDD: Western Digital Black 1TB

Operating System:????

Questions:

1-Operating system: I just installed win 10 home on a new laptop we are using also for cad and 3ds max and no problem so far. Had to turn off automatic updates and Defender, not so easy as it sounds. Should i install win 7 or 8 on the new workstations?

2- PSU: How much Watts do i need for this setup? what brand you recommend, my choices here are limited to Corsair, Silverstone, thermaltake and Cougar

3- Do you see any problem or suggestion to change in the configuration?

Once again thank you for the help.
