annamac
Hi there, I'm just new to 3ds Max and after following an online course they recommend the ART renderer. I don't see anyone talking about it on here and wondered what the feedback on it was? I'm looking for a renderer to work with and would really appreciate some advice. Also, while I'm here, I've spent about half a day trying to turn on a Free light. Not a spark. I've trawled through forums and can't find a fix. Any guidance would be most appreciated. My scene is really blue as well if anyone knows a way around that.
dhawalpahadiawala
If you are looking for good architectural visualizations, you should opt for V-ray. Corona is also a good option if you don't want to play around too much with the render settings.
annamac
Thank you. I will try both.
beestee
ART is Autodesk's own revamped renderer. Worth giving it a fair shake before jumping in with a paid render engine IMO. There are so many options now that there is bound to be something that will work best for certain uses. For general architectural visualization I tend to prefer Corona. VRay typically has several outlying technical advancements that are well ahead of Corona. All things considered, the most important underlying rendering technologies are neck and neck with these two, the stuff that matters for every rendering, and Corona is considerably less expensive and less complex to get the results we are after. GPU renderers are another consideration if you have hardware to take advantage of it. Since there are many different approaches with these it takes some investigating to understand the limitations and benefits and how your work can fit into them. annamac
Thank you. It's good to get that feedback. I feel like I'm in the middle of a forest with no compass!
dhawalpahadiawala
Thank you. It's good to get that feedback. I feel like I'm in the middle of a forest with no compass! You are going to feel that way for a while. That's very common in the beginning. I agree with Benjamin Steinert. I juggled with many renderers and it took me almost a year and a half before I finally settled down with using V-Ray. V-Ray is the most sought after since a long time, but I am seeing a lot of artists are producing great renders with other mediums also. Have a good time experimenting. jamesgallagher
Try Corona, I am fairly new to the 3d world as well and Corona seems to be the best fit for my style. They have a great tutorial series on YouTube.
