afkariaziz1
Hello. I am trying to render water eg I create a plane and attach a material with bump map with noise and then when I render. It appears flat and looks like glass. What is happening??? Thanks
pablovergara
Check the mapping of your material onto the plane. Create a checkerboard material and apply it to the plane and see if it looks like it should, dimensions-wise. Then re apply the water material and render. See how it goes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
afkariaziz1
it dosent work. thanks Edited August 14, 2016 by afkariaziz1
pablovergara
Try some water materials from vraymaterials.de Maybe there's something wrong with your material Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
pablovergara
Is the scale of the project correct? It could be that too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nic H
have you tried scattering bumps on the water using forest pro
landrvr1
Let's try this: Water Material: Set your bump map to 5.0 Add a SMOKE map to the bump slot. Smoke Parameters: size 50 phase 0 #iterations = 5 Exponent = 1.
Francisco Penaloza
have you tried scattering bumps on the water using forest pro say what?????
afkariaziz1
It doesn't work either. The scale is correct I think eg the walls are in meters like 150mm wide etc
Nic H
ok what about modelling the water or using realflow to fill the pool then build a fan to blow air over it - that will give you relistic vray
Francisco Penaloza
The problem is simple really, you need to find the right scale, you could use displacement or bump, but if your scale is not correct, then it won't render. How did you modeled that water?? REVIT? Sketchup or inside Max? Just apply a reset xform, the collapse, add some subdivisions to that plane, put the noise map in the bump channel and be sure that the texture visible in the viewport and adjust until you can see it. Then render and check the scale. for stronger effect you may want to increase the contrast between white and black. Change the Noise threshold to 0.7 to high and 0.4 to low You could always paint some B/W map in photoshop and use it as displacement map too. but again you need to be sue that you have a correct UVWmap and a correct scale. You could also put a plane with lots of subdivisions and apply a ripple modifier, with noise modifier.
afkariaziz1
it is still not working. i tried the uv map and your advice per se. tried the material too from vray material.de [/img]

landrvr1
There's no reason it shouldn't be working. Can I suggest that you start with a fresh scene for testing purposes?
afkariaziz1
i did a new fresh scene and just use plane to check whether its working and it is working. idk what settings i touched on the bump map on the current scene.
landrvr1
NICE! Can you just replace the water plane then? Is it working when you replace?
Francisco Penaloza
Can you just delete everything but the water plane and post that scene here. I would like to review that.
afkariaziz1
i started a new scene and everything was default. why is this not happening on my current scene?
heni30
Just import everything into this file.
afkariaziz1
i imported it into a new scene. still same though.
heni30
No, I meant your isolated water object is working. So just import everything from the faulty scene into this scene minus the water object that isn't working.
pablovergara
^yeah sometimes all you can do to solve a problem is delete the geometry causing the problem and model it again or even start a new scene and copy stuff over. I do that when I import models from revit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
afkariaziz1
i have done what george said. it is working. idk what happen and how that works. something to do with the other scene materials or something.
