joelmcwilliam
How much cost the pc in your first post? Can you get it with discount? And what kind of pc do you have now or did you have? (specs) What did the chap who worked it IT tell you? In order to get confusions out of the way.
Kerry Thompson
I guess we will find out - I have got a dual Xeon E5-2698 v4 (20C), 128Gb RAM with dual M6000 24Gb system coming into the office shortly. As a possibility for which particular use? That's the question. The M6000 is a gpu that costs ~5000$ in the US right now. Why on earth would anyone spend this amount of money to get a gpu of this kind? One could build a top notch Workstation with this budget (top gpu included). I think that this kind of hardware interests only very few professionals right now, and with extremely specialized tasks. Not the average CGI professional. Dimitris Tolios
What was the cost per tower for the above Kerry?
Nikolaos M
What was the cost per tower for the above Kerry? It smells "blood", Mitsos... Dual (!!!) M6000? I'd say something around 20-25K$ a piece.
Dimitris Tolios
Pretty close...I could get one today for $22,000 + tax...dual M6000, dual E5-2698 v4 (water cooled), 128GB Ram & 1TB bootable M.2... Would be really interested to see a honest review and how "Dual" GPUs would help on which application, other ofc than Vray RT GPU.

That's what the exclamation marks were for... I configured one in mediaworkstations.net and it would cost around 22k$ as you said. H HP Z840 could cost slightly more (doesn't have the 2698 v4 as a choice, but comparing it with the previous 2697 and the top 2699, it would probably cost 5.5K a piece). Same with Dell. ~22K again. So, you were quite accurate.
Kerry Thompson
Cost is around $US19.5K, the box is a Dell 7910 with the on site warranties, twin 4K monitors etc. I will feed back some performance ideas across a range of apps when things settle down. Nikolaos M
The price is relatively good. The question remains: Why do you need 2xM6000/24gb? If it is for gpu rendering, then why the dual 2698 v4?
