danielpalma
Hello I've been in the arch viz industry for 5 years now working on dozens of projects using 3ds max, vray, and photoshop. My plan has always been to stay in arch viz to pay off those pesky school loans till I was stable enough to pursue another choice in the CG industry. The problem is, with this skill set I dont really know what I'm capable of actually pursuing. I want to actually do the environments for movies and start breaking into that field. Does anyone have any tips to start getting there? Is there even such a job position? Based on the initial research i have done I learned i may need to learn maya since most companies that I looked at have that as a requirement. Any piece of information would help. Thanks ! James Vella
I switched from archviz back in 2010 to TV/Commercial work for 2 years. Great experience, these guys work at some monster pace! Two things that helped me; 1 - Contact in that industry, start talking to people and show/share your work, join semi-pro groups and join the competitions, your name floating around the office will certainly make a difference if you dont know anyone to start off with. 2 - I showed them my work and mentioned that software is not an issue if I have 3 months to convert. I have also converted Maya guys for our max projects we worked on - max still does exist in the film world! If your work is actually good and your a good person to work with you should have no troubles migrating to new software - especially when all day long you are working with people who have mastered the software and even writing their own tools for it, a few chats will go a long way.
