MAXer Li
My goal is to have 1 workstation with higher single core frequency for modeling, editing etc and multiple GPUs for vRay GPU rendering. And then the other server as render node. Here is what I have now. Do you guys have any suggestion to optimize my current gears: The workstation CPU: Intel i7 6700KMS: MSI z170A mPowerRAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2A2666C16R DDR4 2666MHz 16GB Kit X2 (32G in total)SSD: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 2280 MZ-V5P256BW 256GB PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.1 SSDSSD: ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5" SATA3 6Gb/s SSDHDD: Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB Desktop SATA3 6Gb/s /64MB HDDPSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 1000WVGA: Quadro M5000 X1 + Nvidia Titan X (previous generation) x 2 Render node MB: Supermicro X10dri-t ServerCPU:Intel XEON E5 2683v3 x 2Samsung 16GB 2RX4 PC4-2400T ECC REG DDR4 2400 X 8 (128G in total)Plextor 256GB PCI-E SSDAcBel PC8055 R9 1100W 80Plus Gold I am now planning to replace the MB of the workstation with ASUS z170A WS so that I can upgrade to 4 GPUs in the future if I need. Now I will use 3 GPUs only. I don't do SLI so having different GPUs in same PC has no problem for me. Any advice is appreciated! I am open to sell/replace what I have now but it would be good to keep as much as possible
Nikolaos M
If you want multiple gpus for RT then 6700K/Z170 is not the best option. You'll need a motherboard with PLX chips etc. Imo, change to a 6850K/X99 combo with a motherboard that supports quad sli. The psu is 850 or 1000W? I can't understand. Eitherway, for 4 gpus running at the same time and 3 of them rendering in RT, I would personally pick a 1500-1600W psu. 850W won't do the job. Each TitanX could pull more than 250W while rendering. MAXer Li
Thanks Nikolaos, I am wondering if buying the ASUS z170a WS (1151 socket) with PLX chips would have significant difference in terms of performance compared to X99MB + 6850K? It is 1000W, it was my typo. If I just use 3 GPUs at this moment would 1000W be enough? Thank you!
joelmcwilliam
You got some cash to spend. Going overkill on the psu will not hurt.
