noormurad
Hello, I have trouble with keeping up my digital files. Working in visualisation invloves dealing with a lot of files for each project. & by now I have done a lot of projects that fill up approximately 100 giga byte. However, I dont know how to keep them or manage them. & of course, there would a lot of other projects coming in future. It is hard to keep all of these files on computer. I tried putting them in a harddesk but after 3 years right now it has become so slow that I had to get them out of it. Can I know about the ideal way to manage work files, please? Larissa Holderness
Probably an external hard drive that you can archive. That is what I do.
philippelamoureux
I would personally use the cloud. I think it's the safest solution. Hard drives can always fail. Right now all my assets and projects are on the cloud. I've had 2 hard disk fail in the past and I've lost everything (because I wasn't doing backup in the past). Now with the cloud I don't even need backup because I don't think it's needed. If my pc explode tomorrow, it's absolutely not a problem. I work at 2 different places, and having everything in the cloud allow me to not carry and external drive. I just log on and download what I need when I need. Works best with a good connection though. Edited November 18, 2016 by philippelamoureux
noormurad
I have known about cloud storage when I researched alternatives for harddesk & I think it is great. But, there are some troublesome points. First, I dont how I am going to upload all of the file from computer to the cloud as they are may reach 100 gega now. Maybe if I knew in the past about the cloud & made it a habit to upload regularly, it wouldnt be a trouble. Is there a way to upload fast? Second, Most cloud storages I have seen has 10- 15 gega only for free & thats too little. Is there cloud storage that offers more? An exception is mega cloud storage but I heard that it will shut down so I cancelled this option. I would like also to know please about a cloud storge that has the feature of the capability to review uploaded images and videos before downloading the file. philippelamoureux
100 gb is nothing. I have a OneDrive (Microsoft) account with 1000 gb of space. It cost 7$/month. It's nothing really. I use about 200gb of my total space right now. Cloud synchronization happens in the background, can be paused, resumed etc. You won't even notice it if you have a good connection. But the speed depends on your internet connection. I usally upload at 1-3 mb/sec and download at 4-6 mb/sec. And of course you can preview your images before downloading. You can also have your files saved on your local disk and OneDrive at the same time and whenever you make a change to a file, it will automatically update the cloud-stored version. I like one Drive because it's deeply integrated within win10. Edited November 18, 2016 by philippelamoureux
