komyali
can somebody explain me in one post, or show me simple tutorial about render to texture with vray. I want to use it for animation rendering so I can put down render times per frame. Most of tutorials on youtube use complete map. What is target slot? And how do you bake reflections? Also what materials do you use later?
Francisco Penaloza
Here, this is simple and tell the whole workflow https://www.vray.com/vray_for_3ds_max/tutorials/basic_texture_baking_with_vray_part_1.shtml
komyali
Already red that. They use complete map. Complete map render reflection too i think... good for still render not for animation. And for animation I need separated maps, but not sure what. Also shell material is using standard material?! Can I use vray material with self illumination ? I always use vray materials for vray render.
Francisco Penaloza
so what you want to bake maps?? I only did a few tried time ago just for learning purposes, and trying with Realtime engines, but never dig to much in to it. Yes you could use VRay light materials instead. I remember seeing a unwrella tutorial showing the process too, using VRay materials. maybe you can check that one out.
komyali
purpose, shut down lights, and use backed maps for animation, that way drop down time per frame :
Francisco Penaloza
mmm what type of animation it is?? remember that to bake textures, you need to unwrap all the geometry, if this is an exterior, this workflow won't be efficient, if it is an interior well it may be wroth the effort. Complete map will bake everything, you could select from the same menu what type of maps you want to bake. If nothing moves then complete map will do just fine, if there are transparent objects and reflective objects, then you can use a shell material to reflect in top of your baked shaders. If it is an exterior I have a possible better option let me know
komyali
interior scene, I dont like complete map because it bake reflections too( when you change position you see things in reflection from first position), also i have exterior on my mind, but I am not sure what to do with bunch of trees And how do you mean to use shell material for reflections on top? you meant blend material ? Nicolai Bongard
I think he is referring to a shellac material, it is one of the standard materials. So basically put your "regular" materials below and then another reflective layer on top of it to get reflections in your animation.
komyali
ah... shellac I am using vray all the time so max materials are something new to me anyway thanks guess it is not going to create render problem because other two are vray mat. Nicolai Bongard
You may get a warning, but it should work just fine.
Francisco Penaloza
shellac or coat, or composite material will do.
komyali
and exterior? Still not sure what "add texture element" to use with vray and where to add it after bake? Edited December 1, 2016 by komyali forget
