richardcousins
Hi everyone, So I have been following a tutorial from Pluralsight on how to create arch vis interior renders with vray. For the tutorial they have a pre modeled scene which I have, They add in a daylight system which works great, my test renders match theirs. The problem arises when I follow the steps for adding in and HDRI map. In the tutorial the instructor adds a HDRI map to a vray HDRI texture in the material editior, this in then set to spherical environment. This HDRI map is then instanced to the 3DSMax Background/Environment map slot. We then create a dome light and add the same HDRI map (instanced) into the texture slot for the dome light. Really simple, but when the instructor renders her scene the scene is nice a light and you can see the HDRI map mapped onto the background through the window. When I do it the scene is darker and the back is basically all black, you can slightly see the HDRI map but not by much. Im using the same version of max (2016), vray wise the instructor uses 3.2 and I am on 3.4. I honestly dont know whats gone wrong or what is different. I'm even using the exact same HDRI they use as well. As its a tutorial they do have a max file that already has the HDRI added and that opens and renders fine, just like the instructors but I dont know why when I do it is goes wrong. Another issue is my renders seem to have an orange titn but the instructors are more natural. Edited January 10, 2017 by richardcousins
Andrew Adams
I remember doing the course and had a similar issue. I think it had some to do with the Vray environment settings and camera but I did it a few years back. There is a setting where you can boost the HDRI brightness through a setting in the Vray material, it's a multiplier. richardcousins
Hi Andrew, This is a new tutorial that was only was released a few weeks ago. I did try upping the value of the HDRI which does make the scene brighter but the HDRI map is still really dark in the renders.
Andrew Adams
Ah, a new tut! Don't think I can give you an answer without trying it out myself... sorry! I have heard there could just be some simple settings in Vray physical Cam if using that, but otherwise with the number of instances there are a lot of variables that could be having an effect Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Adrian Denne
1. What are your render settings? Especially the color mapping mode setting 2. Are you using the correct linear workflow? 3. Are you rendering in vray's VFB and is the 'display colors in RGB' set correctly? 4. Have you set up a physical camera? Orange tint could mean your camera settings are different. 5. Are they any changes to the hdr maps 'overall and render multipliers'? I would compare their scene settings to check.
