Chris MacDonald
Hey guys, Got an odd problem where all my plans (splines) have dissapeared from view in the viewport. I can select them (only via the "select from scene dialogue", not by clicking them in viewport) and apply an extrude modifier and they'll show up - so they ARE there... Obviously I've checked their layers are on, and that they aren't "hidden" in the scene. Any ideas? They were displaying fine this morning. I'm sure this is something simple that I'm missing, or a button I've pressed on the keyboard accidentally. [Edit] When I select a spline and work within it, nothing shows up, not even vertices. I have to have the "display end result" toggle enabled to see what's going on. Edited January 26, 2017 by Macker
Scott Schroeder
In your display tab and hide by category make sure you have shapes unchecked. If you have shapes checked, it will not display the spline. In the wonderful world of Max, in your select from scene dialog, if you have display frozen and display hidden toggled on, you can still select the spline. If you extrude it, it now becomes geometry and will display itself per your hide by category settings in the display tab.
Chris MacDonald
Perfect! Thank you! 3DS Max is bizarre. Why should there be such myriad ways of hiding/unhiding objects?
Scott Schroeder
I never understood why they put in the toggle to allow you to select frozen or hidden objects in the select from scene dialog. That is a true case of Max trying to be smarter than the user. I hid/froze those objects for a reason!
