komyali
I have project with enormous size... how to make grass? Camera is from distance, I will maybe create some shots from close, but most of them are 50-100 meters from ground, aerial view. What would you recommend? I think Multiscatter is too much work... James Vella
ariel view - mix some grass textures and blend them using procedural map close view - forestpro/scatter the area closest to camera
beestee
I have found a method that works for almost all of the scenarios I have encountered, it is precisely what James has outlined above. I am using 2 textures for most instances and only use geometry for areas closer to the camera. The first texture is a typical, well tiled grass texture for typical ground level viewing. Try to eliminate as much noticeable repeating as possible. The second will be a macro scale texture, I found mine by exploring Google Maps for a while to find a good grassy area and then made a tilable texture of it myself. Again, remove as much noticeable repeating as possible. This texture does not have to be super high quality since it is only used to subtly manipulate the tone of the higher detail ground level texture. Mix/Blend until you are happy with the result. I have been using an 8:1 scaling ratio and it has been working for me consistently. Basically you will tile the detail texture 8 times for every 1 time that you tile the macro texture. I have baked this into one massive image using Photoshop.
komyali
ok, do you bake map and then tile in photoshop 8:1 and blend together? or you blend it with vrayblendMTL and material tiling?? Can you post some textures, I am really in hurry, every second is important to me I dont have time to tweak it what I found that will be This repetition goes on my nerves, I remove it interior or exterior with photoshop baked map and then get back to max. komyali
I am in Normandy, trying to find some grass map... Next is England, maybe Arsenal stadium...
SkylineArch
create 2 vray materials with different grass textures/images in them, and blen them with a procedural noise. any google grass should work: https://www.google.com/search?q=tileable+grass+texture&biw=1158&bih=679&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwjh1Mecq-vRAhUp0oMKHfOqBhcQ_AUIBigB#q=tileable+grass+texture&tbm=isch&tbs=isz:l
komyali
tnx bro, noise blend save my life. hate when somebody say procedural map, immediately over my head is big question mark what procedural map. be more precise. now my grass looks too much green have to put some dry yellow grass :DSave
