damanjeetsingh
Hi all, It's been a while doing small ArchVis projects on my current system with following config: AMD FX 6300, 12 GB DDR3, Gigabyte MB Nvidia GeForce 210 card, 1 TB HDD This is the PC I started learning rendering with, but now I need to upgrade. I consider myself a newbie in Hardware knowledge and so, need suggestions and a basic understanding from you guys. I have a budget of around $1500 and thinking of getting an i7 7700k. What do you guys suggest? I need to be able to render atleast a 30 sec decent walkthrough animation. would this i7 7700k enable me to do that? if not, what do I need? Also, I need to know how powerful is this processor or whichever config you suggest, than my current one. Secondly, I want to understand the basic terms like workstation, multi processor system, a render farm, a GPU, whether or not to install it, its needs, its comparison with a CPU. I can understand that it is a lot to answer, but it will be a huge help to me. I need someone with first hand knowledge, who has gone through the ups and downs of using these components. Any suggestion will be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance for the reply. Regards.
Chris MacDonald
I would be tempted to wait to see what the benchmarks on the new AMD Ryzen chips look like. Should be a matter of days.
numerobis
It seems that the Ryzen NDA will be lifted on thursday. Edited February 27, 2017 by numerobis
aaronrumple
30 sec walkthrough at 30 fps? That's 900 frames. Your time can be calculated based on your single frame test renders. Benchmark your current system with Cinebench. Then find a similar system to what you want with the i7 7700 and the math is pretty simple on what your speed increase might be. It sounds like your current system would be part of the rendering farm.
