Chris MacDonald
Hey guys, I wondered if any of you had seen this? It's a free OpenEXR plugin for photoshop! I haven't tried it yet, but will definitely be looking into using it in the future. Apologies if this has been posted before.
Josef Wienerroither
I used it a bit in the last project but ultimately went back to Fnords ProEXR http://www.fnordware.com/ProEXR/ ( they made it free to some time ago, by the way ). the Exr-IO one gave me strange color shifts - but maybe i was just using it wrong ;-)
Chris MacDonald
Ahhh they made it free? Last time I checked (a long time ago!) it was still paid for. I just used the Exr-IO plugin for the first time and all of the render elements showed up as complete nonsense, and the alpha/transparency was already applied to the RGB pass (not stored as a separate channel) - though this could be down to some settings that I need to look into. jackbird
When Photoshop goes rogue and applies alpha automatically against your wishes you can tell it Layer > Layer Mask > Layer Mask from Transparency, copy the layer mask to an extra channel and then delete the mask (I have an action set up for this). Not sure whether or not you'll find after doing this that it has discarded the RGB data for the fully transparent areas, however.
