Krisztian Gulyas
Im interested in your experiences and/or opinions with the new AMD cpus. What do you think about the performance, benchmark scores? Do you plan on trying/using them?
Zdravko Barisic
I think that main issues are the mobos, with only 4 dimms for ram, instead of 8 dimms like X79 or X99 mobos. Here you have some Corona bench https://corona-renderer.com/benchmark/?cpu-type=RYZEN&submit=Search
Zdravko Barisic
More Ryzen testing here Cinema4D, Blender, POV-Ray, Corona http://www.anandtech.com/show/11170/the-amd-zen-and-ryzen-7-review-a-deep-dive-on-1800x-1700x-and-1700/18 Vray, Mental Ray http://www.hardware.fr/articles/956-17/rendu-3d-mental-ray-v-ray.html
Krisztian Gulyas
Thank you Zdravko! These are great links and infos. Its funny that it reaches almost the performance of an intel xeon e5 2680 v3 cpu score (the one Im curently using), and for the price of that cpu you can put together a whole system with a ryzen 1800x cpu and the performance is almost the same based on the benchmarks. Francisco Penaloza
that's very good info @Zdravko I am also interested in this new AMD chip. I been waiting a little to see the development of Motherboards, the first gen seems a little glitchy to be used as main workstation but I think BIOS are being updated quickly. Is nice to see AMD back in the competition.
h3d
Are there benchmark test like that for Vray? I love the site.
Francisco Penaloza
The only thing is I wonder how is VR performance. I'v seen some games it drop frame rates under 90FPS and that's not good while in VR. Any of you found any test about it?
Dimitris Tolios
Architecture is new so many drivers / programs lack any short of optimization for it, still performance is definitely there from day one. Looks a very solid platform to base affordable render nodes on (1700/1700X). 4x Dimms are not a real problem with DDR4 that makes 16GB UDIMM sticks readily available - unless ofc you have to have more than 64GB.
