VR Apps

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm starting to produce more and more VR/360 images that we load onto a phone and use google cardboard/samsung gear to show clients, etc. What apps do you guys recommend for loading custom 360 images? Almost all of the ones I've managed to find so far seem to just provide content for you (360 of the top of the Eiffel tower, etc) and not let you use your own?

The 360 photo app on the gear allows you to use your own images. Just follow the VR Guide from Chaos Group.

Though that 360Photos app does have limitations. In all honesty, just make a simple viewer in Unity. It's not has hard as you think. I hate programming and I haven't used Unity it eons, but it took me all of a day to have the basic framework done that I can now load all of my scenes on as well as easily send that app to a phone so it can be run from there.

IrisVR is very simple and easy to do. However it is now a paid fee (monthly I believe?). I didn't use it enough to justify the fee myself. I then found InstaVR which is free, but a little wonky to set up. Still not a bad alternative though. I'm not sure if it is still free though.

Part of the issue I have is that I need VR for iPhone as all of the company phones are iPhone's (I personally have an android). Finding VR stuff for android seems easy enough, but iPhone it seems a bit more difficult. I think we may have to go down the route of a cloud based thing such as iris vr, but I do welcome all suggestions.

To expand on this, I have a Unity scene that I made for this exact reason. If you want it, let me know and I'll Dropbox it for you.

EDIT: It's pretty basic, but meaning you build a new app for each image you want in stereo 3D. Re-reading your OP, I guess you want an app with all your images in that you can scroll through?

Not built that functionality in yet. It's on my to-do list when I free time (So once in a blue moon) but it's not too hard to do yourself
