daniellg
Hi everyone.. im trying to make this effect in which the light reacts to an audio file, in a similar way way to the audio controller effect but with lights! im leaving this video as an example, its from a band called meshuggah, its pretty heavy stuff so watch your ears! but pay attention to how the lights turn on and off with the rythm.. thats what im trying to emulate. any suggestions? thanks!! Chris Harris
If you know After Effects, I'd take a look at this video ( ), a little after half way through (watch from the beginning though to understand how to adjust the expression to get the lights to react more how they are in the meshuggah video) he shows a picture of a lens flare (yikes!) and how you can get it's opacity to change depending on the frequency/unit of the audio. This also works with lights within After Effects, OR if you are doing something within Max that has lights, you can use the Compositor Link between MAX and After Effects to bring in MAX lights and animate those using the steps in the video tutorial link above. Through alpha channels and some masking, you can achieve a similar effect to the music video.
jonseagull
Audio float controller on the multiplier of a light, filtered through an expression to get the all-or-nothing quality of that. To get the sequencing of different lights you'll also need to layer the audio controller with some kind of expression.
