Chris MacDonald
[begin rant] Surely I cannot be alone in this. Surely. I have my suspicions that it may be more common to visualisers that work within an architectural practice, though perhaps not... Have any of you ever had a project that you've worked seemingly for years - or even actually for years. For one reason or another the designs have changed over, and over, and over, and over... And you've got the lovely job of implementing all of those changes on your 3D model over, and over, and over, and over. I am working on a project that I first started work on in August 2014 and I'm still working on it now. I am sick and tired of looking at it - despite the fact that it's actually quite a nice scheme. I feel like I'd rather smash my face against my desk than continue on with this particular project. Anyone else? [/end rant]
Chris Harris
Basically every project I've ever worked on. Preaching to the choir my friend. And what's worse...90% do not get built.
Francisco Penaloza
Yep as we type this I am working on one of those I think we are going on the Fourth year with this Master planning, modernization exercise. It is being built and of course not as designed, I don't even know why they ask us to renew renderings and animation when they are building it differently!!! This project is especially pain in the neck because the animation show phases of completion and they are changing every year so every time I need to figure out how to adjust things to make it work. Add to that different Max version, V-Ray, we moved from multi scatter to Forest so yeah... a big pain, every single time!! We get paid, but as you will understand now is not about money anymore... BTW my name is not Shirly
SkylineArch
at my "real job" (automotive cgi), I feel like I've been working on the same files for 5 or 6 years. haha for freelance, I get really bored with the projects that drag out, and the quality tends to drop after a while. M V
Yep. Years and years and changes upon changes. It comes with the territory in architecture.
Scott Schroeder
Oh it happens. We won a project back in 2010 and we're still not out of the schematic design phase. I think we just hit out 100th design iteration milestone not too far back. We had a party with a 100th Revision banner, it was epic. This one in particular is being redone so many times because of money issues (the client assumed they could raise $100m, then later found out that $30m was more realistic), then the city keeps changing codes so we have to go back to the drawing board, and so many other things that are out of our control. It's an endless rinse-wash-repeat cycle.
Justin Hunt
by this time the client has now spent $100m in fees
notamondayfan
If they're paying for it then what's to grumble about?
M V
I would hope that what we do each day is not all about getting paid. You can shovel crap and be paid decently. We all ended up in this profession for some satisfaction to the art/designer mind we all have. Working on the same project over and over for the same client tends to get boring and monotonous. Ideas are dead, there is no freshness to what you are doing... it sucks and makes the day long.

Ernest Burden III
Yeah, that happens sometimes. I try to think of it as an annuity. One, 1400 Broadway, I've been drawing for a decade or more--lobby, awning, window replacements, retail spaces... The client recently asked for a number for more views, but nothing has come of it. Maybe its ... DEAD! The checks always cleared.
