andreicincan
hello guys, I'm new to 3ds max and trying to get the hang of it, but i hit a bump. when i apply NURMS subdivision to my object it messes up the edges. Also, after i rotate+copy+attach the object to create the piece that i want, even if i weld all vertexes, the ones on the edges of the individual objects wont weld. i tried to flip faces and it didnt work. screenshots : https://ibb.co/jGRiYG https://ibb.co/gStVDG https://ibb.co/dkNqDG thx
andreicincan
ok after hours of reading almost unrelated forum posts and trying random stuff, i stumbled across a solution. I have to delete all vertical edges that have smoothing problems and bridge the gap created between the horizontal ones, thus creating that specific poly all over again. now it works. I have no clue if its a bug or if i did something wrong, but this seems to be a good workaround for now.
Francisco Penaloza
Do a google search of Poly modeling in 3D Max, there are many 'tricks' you should do when you prepare your mesh for the smooth modifier. In your case creating 'control' edges closer to the edges you would like to keep straight will help what smooth modifier to understand where to smooth and where not to.
