Dave Bond
I hope noone is gonna tell me to model this stuff...hehe...so how do you fellas quickly make a believable texture that casts shadows also? I was gonna just make a diamond shape crosshatch greayscale jpg and use that...but can I just do it as easliy in Viz with the delivered stuff? I use VRAY to render with also sometimes, I am still learing about it though also. Thanks! Dave
Sawyer
I haven't tried this so if it works please let me know: Thake a brick texture and apply it to the opac map slot. Rotate 45 on the w axis and place white for the grout, black for the brick swatch. I think it would be best to have the brick be square. This is just a diamond opac map. Real chain link weaves. Josh1587140445
I have a chainlink fence texture that I would be willing to share. It is in .tga format, but unfortunatly it is at home so I would have to post it tomorrow. I have only used it once, but it does work pretty well. STRAT
use the opacity map method with ray traced shadows
smoke3dstudio
I am not sure if it will work or not if we use blend material. use black/white (opacity map) as a mask map. Just put chainlink map on diffuse map for material 1 only and make it 2sides. For material 2, just make specular, diffuse and ambient to be black, opacity = 0 and leave the material to be render 1 side. If it doesn't work, I prefer to use projector light or shadow bitmap. This is to avoid long time rendering.
IC
Never used these but I tend to collect good maps when I find them just incase......
John Dollus
Or use an opacity map, change the shadow method to area shadows and check transparent shadows under the optimizations rollout. Lots of ways to do this.
Zortea
A Few years ago I used a chainlink fence on a building, it was molded, but I don´t know how it was made... maybe I can find it on my models librery... as it is a model you don´t have to use alpha channel...(better for me as long as I don´t know hou to use it)
