gus_webb
hello all... i'm a beginner with viz, and trying to get a handle on this whole radiosity/global illumination thing. i've done searching on this website, as well as looking at other tutorials. i own "mastering autodesk viz" by george omura. and still, i can't seem to get a decent rendering out using the daylight system. i'm trying to do an interior scene right now, and everything is turning yellow and orange, and nothing is casting a shadow. i've checked all my other light sources, including the sun, and everything is set to raytrace shadows. i'm using logarithmic exposure control, set to approx. 65 brightness and 50 contrast. but for the life of me, i can't figure out what's going on. does anyone know a good place for me to look to find some more info about it, or a good book i could look for? i just don't seem to have a good understanding of this whole deal. thank you; this site is excellent. my answer may be here somewhere already, but i haven't been able to find it. Richard McCarthy
Sounds like your sun exposure is either set too high, or you didn't turn on meshing. DO this. " Radiosity Meshing, set it to 10 meter" (or less, experiment with it) then, turn on Render Direct, Regather Indirect. Goto your environment menu, click daylight, click Exterior. Now, you should see your shadow.
nisus
Hi gus_webb, Check the viz-helpfile for the 'radiosity workflow' section RTFM! nisus
gus_webb
Richard- Thank you! That was exactly what I needed to do. I thought I had the meshing on, but apparently not. I'm getting the shadows I was lacking now. Unfortunately, it's all splotchy, and I'm getting too much color reflected, but one step at a time, I suppose. I'll keep working and see what helps. Thanks again.
