TomD_Arch
So for the first time I am thinking about how sick and tired I am of forgetting to create a max file template with my first 15 materials set with Mat ID 1 through 15 so I don't have to do this every time I start a new project. Then I thought "There's got to be a script to do this right?" So knowing nothing about scripting, does anyone have any advice:1)Where do I start to teach myself about scripting in Max and 2) If there's already a script out there does this, where can i research it? Francisco Penaloza
I have half of the answer, We use this script every time, for my workflow, doesn't matter if materials or object have an ID already. Effect channel set, it creates an ID for objects and material for your whole scene, it does other stuff too, but I use mostly for that 3d-kstudio.com
Nicolai Bongard
I am not sure i understand the issue correctly, but you can set up your materials and save them as a material library, and while the material library is loaded/open you can overwrite your maxstart.max file and the material library should be open in your material editor everytime you start a new max file. Dejan Sparovec
I also think setting up your own maxstart file is the way to go. Just set up your materials (no need to save them in a library even), layers, lighting and whatever else you want and save the file as maxstart.max in your MyDocuments/3ds Max/scenes folder.
