Chad Warner
Been awhile on this post, but I figured I would finally post an image that I used xfrog trees on. So you here you are! Polygon counts are HUGE, but with some tweaking, can be quite manageable. I think I have 18 trees of some sort or another in there, and render times were at about 20 minutes for an 800x600 image. Ernest Burden III
xfrog trees That look really good. My concerns would be the poly counts, especially for a scene requiring a lot of trees, and the 'its all little bity polys' look, which in your image isn't that bad. I like to think of a tree as greater than the sum of its parts, but most 3D trees look like just a bunch of parts. It's tough, and that's why there is no single answer. Thanks for posting that
Chad Warner
I know what you are talking about with the 'lots of little polys' look, and in my case, the only tree that I am not terribly happy with and I think has that look is the big tree in the center....and that may be completely my fault. That tree started out twice as dense as it is now, but I made the decision to "prune" the tree so as to be able to see through it. Plus, you have NO idea how excited I was to be able to make a tree that looked somewhat like a crepe myrtle. Every landscape architect around here has crepe myrtles in their plans, which until now, I didn't have. As soon as I get the time to figure out how to make a live oak tree (which would be the second most requested tree) I will gladly be the uncompensated spokesperson for xfrog. Telemachus
Nice pic, Chad. That came out great! Anyone else have XFrog 3.5 Lite? I just purchased a copy but didn't receive the free Basic Tress with the software. Does it become available after you receive the key? I just don't see the models anywhere on the disc. Thanks! And nice job again, Chad!
Richard McCarthy
Hmm does XFrog tree comes with texture? it looks like its lacking textures in your render Chad. Also this large amount of polygon per model issue is worrying. I would suggest people to go with SpeedTree, it's faster for rendering and looks quite acceptably nice too. The best 3D tree plugin I see right now is probably bionatics Natfx. Trees looks amazing on those renders. These are some REALTIME 3D render done with Speedtree from the upcoming game "Elder Scroll 4 Oblivion".. remember these are realtime so a lot of light reflection from leafs, overlapping shadows, are not present in the pictures. http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion01.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion02.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion03.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion04.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion05.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion06.jpg http://www.idvinc.com/images/games/Oblivion07.jpg
