notamondayfan
Hello all, Quick question, after DraftSight started charging, I need a new piece of CAD editing software. All I need to do is open DWGs, delete the crap I don't need to see, then save out. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dean
Francisco Penaloza
Sketchup and Blender can do that. Even 3D Max. I usually use the Free CAD viewer to see if 3D MAx is missing something, but usually is not much, just some hatch and fonts or text that I don't need any ways. Scott Schroeder
Yea, perhaps just importing and cleaning in Max is the way to go? Though, CAD can get dirty quickly if you are importing directly for an architectural set. Have you looked at the Sini Ignite suite of tools? They have some flat out amazing CAD cleanup tools, well worth the price. https://www.sinisoftware.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=
notamondayfan
Cheers. I've never liked importing raw CAD straight into Max, too much info, especially if the architects isn't tidy with layers. Often there'll be previous revisions hidden too, and not to mention all the hatching! Looks like I might have to just stump up the fee for Draftsight. It's not expensive, but if there's a free alternative I'd go down that route!!
Dejan Sparovec
Also interested in this. In addition to cleaning CAD files, I usually need to move stuff close to origin because importing files that are too far from 0, 0, 0 makes them unusable in Max.
