onwudinjovalentine
I am new to vray and I am trying to render a scene with vray next gpu but it keeps on stopping at merging light cache. The resulting image comes with a lot of noise, what do I do? I am using an NVIDIA gtx 1050 4gb graphics card and 8gb RAM
Francisco Penaloza
The main concern when you use any GPU render is the memory of your video card and how much of that memory you are using with your scene. Noise in the image does not have a direct relation with your video card, but only how many rays it can trace n the preset time that is given to render. So a faster video card will process more ways in a minute so the image may look cleaner than a slower video card in the same amount of time. Having said that if you let your slower video card render longer then you can achieve the same quality. To recap check how much memory you are using in your scene, then check maximum render time in your settings.
onwudinjovalentine
Thank for the reply.... I checked the VfB log and got the following information: mtls; 1339.07, geo; 2140.51mb, lights: 95.01mb. Does this mean I have to remove some geometry from the scene or should I go ahead and increase the render time?
Francisco Penaloza
is not that simple, The memory of your GPU will be used for many things, not only geometry and textures, even for your display. I would recommend to fire up your Windows Task Manager and go to the GPU tab, in there you can see how much memory it is being used by your system and everything else. Then as you work in your scene you'll see how more memory it is being added to it. You also need to consider that the final image size and how many passes are loaded in your frame buffer also will increase the memory usage. There is always a large spike in resources when you start to render, then it lowers a little while actually rendering the image. If you consider all these, you'll understand why Chaos group does not recommend to use any video card with less than 8Gbs even with that, the size of your scene will be limited.
