Francisco Penaloza
Well first, everything in and out of the scene is what make an image to work or not. I know it is a common mistake to think that software settings or light settings 'will do the trick' but actually that's no it. Lets say you have the house modeled. then good materials and in this case reflections play a good part on making that house fit in the environment. The environment it self if you look at it has small but significant color variations, that helps to create depth and a dynamic image. Look how 'greens' are not really 100% green, they shift between warm and cold colors too. The yellow tree is located in that position purposely to create an accent and break the continuity of the background trees. it also balance the mage with respect the large dark tree on the right. Also there is a considerable amount of denaturation overall. Light is important but not everything, the way you need to see light is to create volume in the objects or define the objects. Also to give an overall color, and contrast, in this case a warmer to colder gradient. A warm sun light from the left casting long shadows, but it gets a little cold in the shadows, you can see on the large tree on the right. you also can see how the building wall that is the shadows is colder than the one facing the sun. If you get that effect with an HDRI or spot lights, it doesn't matter really as long you can create the mood you are looking for.
