Shahid Ansari
Hello Everyone I want to update my PC so i am confused with Intel and AMD Please suggest Intel® Core™ i9-9980XE Extreme Edition Processor - price $2000 Core - 18 OR AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X Processor Price $2000 Core - 32 This test Shows AMD 3960x 24 core is 1.5 times Faster than i9-10980xe 18 core Edited August 12, 2020 by Shahid Ansari
Nikolaos M
The basic questions are: 1. What's your CG workflow, i.e. software used, render engines etc? Do you have a rough estimation about your needs in RAM? 2. What's your total budget for this system, and if there is a need for peripherals too (monitors etc)? Tommy L
Do you render on your workstation or have a dedicated node(s)? I have a good hostory with Intel. But the recent machines Ive built have been Threadripper. They do different things well. Single core clock speed probably still goes to Intel. But if you want multi-threading render cores then go Ryzen. Best of both worlds is to have two machines. Work on the Intel, render on the Ryzen. Nikolaos M
3960X is on par with 10980XE in single threaded tasks (in some benchmarks the AMD is ahead, in others slightly behind). But, in multi-threaded tasks it smashes the 10980XE easily. So, Intel isn't exactly ahead in STP in HEDT cpus. We don't know what's the software used for rendering and how the rest of the workflow forms, so any suggestions are meaningless right now.
Shahid Ansari
Hello Everyone Thanks for your Valuable advice My CG Workflow : Architecture and Interior 3D Visualization SOftwate : 3dsmax Vray and corona my system configration: Processor - Intel i7-6800 (6 core) / this processor taking 8 to 12 hrs or some time even more for final rendering and animation not possible Graphic Card - Quadro M4000 Ram - 64Gb So i planning to upgrade Processor, give more power to processor CPU rendering in vray and corona My budget is $2000 This will be my personal home PC Edited August 13, 2020 by Shahid Ansari
Nikolaos M
2 minutes ago, Shahid Ansari said: So i planning to upgrade Processor, give more power to processor CPU rendering in vray and corona Now it makes sense. In your case the way to go is the 3960X, imo. I would upgrade RAM too, in order to get the best out of this processor. You could see something like this PCPartPicker Part List You should mention your cpu cooler too. If it's an older model, there might be compatibility issues. Check if your current cooler is TRX40 compatible. (I would upgrade the gpu too, at some point. It's quite old, but if you don't have viewport performance issues with it, keep it a bit more and wait for the new Nvidia gpus coming out in less than a month). Shahid Ansari
Thanks Nikolaos, Processor : AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X Processor Motherboard: PRIME TRX40 - PRO this will be no problem in rendering and faster rendering than intel i9-9980xe i will also upgrade RAM and Graphics Card after Again Thanks for your valuable advise
Nikolaos M
If you can afford the 3970X, go for it. You didn't mention your cooling system. This is crucial in your case, since you'll be using the cpu for heavy rendering tasks.
Tommy L
Nikolaos makes a good point with the cooling. We had problems with liquid cooled 2990's however, the 3990 looks like its overcome those issues. A Noctua air cooler is keeping the 3990 at 73 max during prolonged heavy load.
Jonathan Sanchez
AMD all the way FTW. I recently picked up a 3950x myself which got me the best bang for my buck since the gen3 threadrippers are a bit more pricey.
