Dear folks;

1st time posting on this forum.

This is my work in progress while doing exterior course from 2G Studio featuring Invermay House by Moloney Architect. its the first time im fully do the jobs in 3Ds Max, as for many years im using sketchup for my workflow. I'm trying to get evening mood and morning mood from this shoot.

Will be my pleasure to get some feedback from all of you

Cheers'

Iwan

The thing that is not working, which is the most important part of the rendering, is your sun direction.  If you look at the daylight scene the white stone is a uniform flat tone all the way across.  Light should be set up so that one side is darker than the other so that the geometry reads as turning 90 degrees several times.  Probably moving the sun to the right so that the left side is darker.

Underneath shadows look a little dark as does the terrace underside.  Some 3d greenery in the foreground would be big help.

Dear Heni;

Thanks you for your suggestion; this is my attempt after read the comment.

I try fixing the camera by using golden spiral composition, add some vegetation on the foreground and play a lil bit with the sun position

Let me know what you think

regards;

Iwan

Wow - big improvement.  Everything looks good except the foundation stone.  Maybe it's an ambient occlusion feel I'm sensing.  There's something about it that feels dirty - like it has mold or something; it has too much texture and saturation compared to the other materials.  But the biggest problem is that it feels very flat - almost like it's an elevation.  Just a matter of playing with the camera to find something a little more interesting .  But it really looks good except for the foundation wall.  It looks like it has an exaggerated texture that you would see in b class game and that uniform dark tone along the bottom looks un natural - like it's wet or something.

Thanks Heni;

yes, you have a sharp eye ? . its ambient occlusion things. i'll remake the stone material, lets see if i can post the update later today. Also will try moving the camera a lil bit to make the perspective feel more dynamic. Right now im still not satisfied with the stone and ground material

I have to say I like the birds eye view shot, almost makes me feel like its an actual built model set :) What trees are you using for the shot?

Ahahahaha, thanks Adrian; ill take it as compliment ? Do you have any suggestion regarding the view? i googling around for drone lens standard and eventually use 36mm for the aerial view

For tree , its mix betwen maxtree model and self made model using grow fx. Love the node based UI on grow FX 2.0, its feel more intuitive compared to older version. Maybe because the logic is very simiiar with slate material editor on max.

This is alternative view with revised stone material. also try the zoom out version of this view and test evening mood.

If you like the straight on view I think you just need some objects on the deck to make it more 3d - like patio furniture or a planter but it has to be very subtle and blend in with the existing materials.

Yes, i might have to start adding some furniture and accesories; as for now its completely empty and unconciously i try to avoid  the interior to be seen on the camera ?

Hey,  I think the first one is spot on.  It really seems integrated with the environment.

The second one you have the environment and the house is just plopped onto it.  Especially because everything is so barren around the foundation wall.  AND the sun angle is turning your glass white.  Visually it may as well be white walls.  And the side walls are now too dark - like the dark wood wall.

It's like two examples of what to do and what not to do.

Hi Heni!

dunno why, october become "job-fest" as we have some rush project, and other 3d artist i know having similiar situation too; so this kind of non commisoned project have to be less prioritized. Good things we have long weekend here in Indonesia so i can spare some time to do this project

in this batch im trying to give the foreground environment some detail, but honestly still not satisfied with the gravel scattering result
