Iain Denby
OK I've had it with Norton. It's caused all sorts of problem. My machine even struggles too boot into Windows. What else could I use?
Elliot
Iain, I had the same problem with Norton. Simple things like using the Explorer to see the contents of the C drive, became a slow process once Norotn was loaded. I really dislike Norton. It's installation and performance seems to depend on the programs you have on your machine and the sequence in which you loaded these programs. I am using PCilllin at this moments. Last time I used it I didn't like it but this new version seems better. Last year I used AVG and I liked it a lot. I purchased it through the internet. I lost the file. I have sent a few E Mails to them, but AVG doesn't even respond. Norton makes my machine slowers..... no doubts about it. Good Luck Elliot
STRAT
try http://www.kaspersky.com/homeuser not the cheapest out there, but ALWAYS scores top marks in comparisons. i'll be purchasing the anti virus/firewall package for my self at the end of this month too. Crazy Homeless Guy
i use AVG free version, they revamped it recently so that the free version updates its virus definitions automatically. i use zone alarm free addition for a software firewall. derijones
Panda Antivirus Platinum is good - no problems in the last year of running and seems to get on with it's job without using too many resources or having huge downloads. Firewall is easily configurable, but doesn't seem to like gigabit ethernet cards if you use them.
Fernando Lino
I'm using Bullguard, you can download the trail version, which is the same commercial version and it works for 2 months it's antivirus and firewall and also you can upload 100mb-1gb to protect your info...I paid about $70 for two years(1 license is for 3 computers) http://www.bullguard.com
Jeff Mottle
I would reccomend the Enterprise version of NAV. It's much more streamlined and meant to take up very little space. I use it on all my machines and the CGA web server.

Jason Matthews
I use Panda Antivirus and it works great. It is one of the few that don't cause system lag.
Elliot
Jason, Thanks for the information. You touched a sensistive issue. That is my actual problem, all these anti-virus softawares they cause system lag. Thanks Elliot
STRAT
a good antivirus system should cause a pretty noticable difference in bootup speeds. maybe by 200-400% longer to boot up, but once booted up after switch on they should run nearly un-noticable in the backround. btw, norton has recently been slanted for serious security leaks
