anyone knows a place to buy people bitmaps? (NOT rpc/archvision, i cant stand their forced-plugin-policy, besides their bitmaps suck imho)

i urgently need some people for a hotel/swimmingpool...i can alpha channel them by myself, it doesn't matter if there is a background...

Marc,

The two cds I had have great quality EPS files of people, trees, cars... with paths ready for transparency.

Problem is I copied the images to the hard drive, so it will be better accessible, and can't find the cds anymore. All I remember is that it said Entourage on it (great help isn't it...)

First thing I'm gonna do is burn it (and lose the cd again).

I'll continue looking for those original cds and let you know if I find them, cause I do remember they had a www on them.

Sorry and good luck.

punch me if you want be how easy would it be to go into town and photograph people you want. Or in your local libray the must be hundreds of picture books with people in them depending on what you need, just scan it yourself?

Also, clothes cataloges are quite good if you don't mind overtly posed people

yeah, i tried that. the problem is that cloth catalog people are posing too much, while people on the street always has some 'flaw'.

they are either not pretty enough, or in the wrong pose, or carry the wrong accessoirs, like shopping bags.

probably the biggest problem is, where i live its most of the time cold, people are running around with thick cloths and coats. and shopping bags, of course.

the only two warm months are july and august, right now its almost freezing again :D

Would the images include drawings as well as black-and-white photos and color photos, and be quite a few years old?

Would the product be "Entourage" by Ernest Burden?

If so, that is a product published by McGraw Hill, and now out of print. It was a companion to my father's book "Entourage", which has always been a top-seller in the McGraw Hill architectural book division. The CD was largely a failure, as it was targeted to architects but only included .eps files that could not be opened by just about anything but Photoshop, at a time before architects had discovered that they needed Photoshop. The material on the CD is rather out-of-date, in my opinion. I drew about 1/4 of the people and vehicles, my sister drew some of the people, too. I do not use the material very often.

There is some discussion about doing a new version of the CD, but I have my doubts about the need, with the RPC, Marlin, ImageCels, etc. content. For contractual reasons the new product would need to have me as the author, not my father (same name though). So I am very interested in this thread, and how people are using 2D clip entourage vs. 3D and 'enhanced 2D'.

I only have images on my hard drive from those CDs, but I don't remember that there were any drawings on the CDs. There are some B&W images though. Also I had no problem opening them in lots of other programs other Photoshop, although I mainly use it in Photoshop.

Ernest, if you are so interested, I can post/email an image, so you can recognize if its any of yours.

Ha! You know, I never really noticed the name on the cover before. I have that 2-CD collection sitting on my desk. I used it in the past but more for trees than the people. I bought it through McGraw in a promotion for less than $75 a few years ago. The clipping path approach was an interesting idea, but the clips usually needed cleaned up.

The Bodyshots product by Digital Wisdom worked much better for me as the images are higher resolution and more neutral lighting. Unfortunately, they only produced one CD. I contacted them some time ago and was told that there would be no more collections produced by them. Apparently, they used a talent agency and had a very bad experience with negotiating distributed rights for the actors/actresses images.

hi There, Marc and All,

i am slowly developing an on-line object-oriented database for MAX/VIZ users: the main index is:

http://www.viz2000.com/htm0/0000-linkquik.html

kind of cryptic Interface, but near the bottom there is a category "LIVE" look for "2LEG" thats my way of referencing Peoples, then there are several categories MAPS, OBJS, PLUG select an X and This will take you to the Next Page that will have some Links to that kind of Item:

example,

LIVE 2LEG MAPS

http://www.viz2000.com/htm0/04A3-QUIK-LIVE-2LEG-MAPS.html

LIVE 2LEG OBJS

http://www.viz2000.com/htm0/04A4-QUIK-LIVE-2LEG-OBJS.html

LIVE 2LEG PLUG

http://www.viz2000.com/htm0/04A5-QUIK-LIVE-2LEG-PLUG.html

ok kind of cryptic (said That) but somewhat logical, let me know if you have any Other Links i am collecting Links to a Lots of Things, by the way the INTR FLRG MAPS has Links to apprx 1,572 Granite Maps alone, even more to Marble flooring.

Thanks

Randy

At the time it came out, the images were hard to open outside of PS, but now most graphics apps will handle clipped eps files. The format choice and the work to mask the images was not done by either my father or me. The publisher hired that out and ignored my input about how it should be done. In fact, the material was only developed for a book, the CD idea was an add-on.

So my current issue of whether or not to do a new CD centers around the question of need. I see so much material available right now that I doubt we need any more. However, I was looking at using 3D techniques to generate a lot of images instead of the usual low-rent spy techniques. I may need those 2 million poly trees after all.

Recently I had police officers pull over and question me about what I was up to when I was photographing a project site in Brooklyn. Maybe going out with a camera isn't such a good idea.

I had the same thing happen to me recently. I was doing some research on glazing appearance and stopped to take some photos of a particularly nice display when 2 police cruisers came up and questioned my interest in the building. Turns out it was a large bank and the managers saw me outside and reported me.

What about me?

2 years ago, was taking photos of a building in Beirut for an architecture project, and got 2 policemen escort me to the police station. Got me to confess i was spying for i don't know which goverment. Didn't believe i was just doing some research......

Finally they let me out after 3 hrs of interrogation, destroyed the film (luckily it wasn't a digital cam, or else they would have destroyed my Compact Flash card..ouch!! - don't know much about technology here)

Oh and btw, the building was the ministry of defense......LOL eek2.gif

From now on what I plan to do is take a printed plan with the architects name, etc, so I can easily look legit. Which what I am doing IS. We should not be afraid to go out in public and do our jobs, however, it appears we may now draw the attention of the authorities. When I am shooting on private property (even outdoors, like on a campus), I make sure to have a contact name from within the organization for when security finally walks over. The rediculous part is that I can often shhot for a long time before anyone actually does bother me, so if I'm a threat, they let me be one for quite a while.

But back to the original issue--people bitmaps:

One thing I do sometimes, though not often, is to draw or paint figures and drop them into a digial rendering to soften the look (see example below). It can also be done by Photoshop filtering of photo maps, too.

Hi all,

Glad to hear I'm not the only one suffering police-inquiry when photographing out on the streets... Two weeks ago I was interrogated twice. Once for taking pictures of policemen taking out a wrongly parked car and the only a few days later people thought we were trying to commit suicide as we were on the top of a building... Almost running out of fingers to count the times...
