mbr
Not sure what you are referring to. If, in reality, he doesn't plan on using water then it'd just be like in cg - a projector showing a looped waterfall.
Crazy Homeless Guy
could post what you have done so we can see the scale, and the effect. the first thing that came to mind was a project Mill James Productions did in Detroit. http://www.millsjames.com/_downloads/videos/tunnel_high.mov ...although i am guessing the scale and budget of this project is dramatically different than yours. i would also guess that markus is on the right track. if the wall is thick enough, you could do a rear projected onto some type of frosted glass. you can get reletively thin projectors, and probably use soem type of lens to make it blow up large enough in a handful of inches. you would not be concerened about whether the image was clear or not when blown up that dramarically, the distortion would probably add tot the effect. radioVOY
the scale is a rectangular space of 3 X 7 meters and 3 meters high, in the lateral wall i need the waterfall efect but made only with light ( a projector maybe) the problem is that i need lamps or spots to do it. in max you place a spot against a wall and put a projector map animated the resulting illumination is the same that i need to a real design. where to find such spots or lamps is the question. Eric
It sounds like you're looking for a video projector than can play a looped movie. This means it would have to be connected to a DVD player or computer - unless there is technology available out there that I'm not aware of. Do a search on Ebay for video projectors and you'll find tons to choose from. Once you get an idea of what's out there, pay attention to the brightness and such of the projectors. You'll probably want a fairly bright one if the projection will be shot onto a wall that receives much light. If sunlight is an issue on the given surface, it might be worth considering tinting the glass a bit. If buying a used projector, make sure the lamp/bulb is relatively new, as they are VERY expensive to replace.
Eric
I also suppose the effect could be achieved using some sort of translucent ribbons suspended in front of the bulb with a frame around the ribbons to create a square box of light on the wall. You won't have anything in focus on the wall, but you'll have movement of light. Perhaps if the translucent material had some kind of prizm effect (the appearance of rainbows of color as you look at it from different angles), you might get some nice color on the wall. It's possible the light itself will create enough thermal wind (if that's the right term) to make the ribbons move without additional fans or anything.
