help. ....making dwg into a 3d model

Hi i am a student in computer animation in the uk

.

 

I am trying to learn how to model a 3d building

in max using an autocad 2d images in dwg. have been using the side top and front view and then trying to roto scope over them.DO you know if there is a faster way.

That's how we do it. There's not really a more accurate way. We use the CAD plans as temlpates and set our snap tools on, then trace over the plans. You could do some preliminary modeling in ACAD then import.

Just make sure you clean up your plans as much as possible before you import. Turn off all text, hatches, extra stuff, like parking lines, etc. This will speed up the import process as well as when you move around the screen. Sorry, there are no magic steps, just be glad you got them in CAD and not hand drawn plans!!
