Ph0n33z
Hello everyone. This is my first post to this forum. I have been reading through some of the articles, posts, etc.. and I am very excited to have stumbled upon this site. I have been a fan of cgtalk.com for a long while now. I am only 18 years old, and have been dabbling in 3d for only a month or so now. I actually know a lot about (Not using, but information) the different major apps, renderers, and cad programs. However, I am brand new to architectural visualization. I became interested in wanting to learn this fascinating area of design in seeing different renders of peoples work, and by also messing around in some design programs. My question is how I should approach Art Viz. I am interested in designing the buildings, furniture, myself in addition to the rendering. I was wondering whether it is best to stick to a single 3d App, or to use a cad type program to do the basic layout, and then add details in a 3d app. I know it is a matter of personal preference, but because I am so new to this I would like to hear your professional opinions. Currently, I have been using Cinema4D, but I am able to try other programs if you feel that is the better route. Thankyou so much for your time. I look forward to a great community experience. Thanks again!
JamesTaylor
Like you say its a matter of personal preferance. I like to do all the modeling of structure / furniture in autoCAD for the accuracy it offers then using file link add to textures / lights etc in viz. i know a lot of people follow the same process but have also known others to work directly in max or viz. the beauty of file linking is that its possible to go back into autoCAD, update sections and then it updates in viz. Ph0n33z
Thankyou so much for replying. I was beginning to think no one was going to. hehehe I have been perusing the forums and have come to see how different everyone's approach to arch viz really is. I seem to be leaning towards using a cad type program for most of the modeling. It seems to be much more efficient and accurate. imo. Since I am someone who has not ever done CAD before, what programs would you recommend? Money is no issue in terms of buying software. I want something I can use to pretty much do most of the modeling work, and then be able to export to whatever 3d app i want in order to add the finishing touches. Thank you so much! BillyGrey
Hey Daniel, As long as we're pushing the Autodesk products, lets not forget Revit You model just like any other true 3d modelling app while you are design/drafting. Export to dwg is very good, and it is a really cool tool. It's the future for adesk arch. Kind of expensive though, esp. for a newb...
bjornkn
You should definitely take a look at SketchUp. It's a fantastic program that makes it even more fun to do 3D. http://www.sketchup.com Take a look at some of the videos at their site to see how easy and userfriendly it's possible to make a powerful 3D program.
