Planning a new video card

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a Matrox Parhelia? I'm planning to upgrade my Matrox G400 Millennium for a Parhelia.

How is the actual performance of the parhelia compared to other video cards of its class and price range? How is it when used with 3DSMAX 5.1?

I'm somewhat attached to the twin head technology and wouldnt mind the triple head of the new matrox. But would be open to suggestion of a somewhat similar technology from another brand if its better performacewise and pricewise.

About three generations behind in performance. On average the parhelia performs on par to a geforce2 ti/ultra.

Too expensive and too slow.

Quadro 750XL

Quadro 900XL

Quadro 980XL

Quadro 1000 FX

Quadro 2000 FX

Or if on a budget...

A ti 4600 Dual DVI-I Geforce4, or Ti 4800 Dual DVI-I Geforce4.

And since I will most likely be asked...

Why?

or

How is that possible?

Here's some evidence. (Even though this topic was already covered in the past month).

Here's some later card scores (to compare in the same scenes vs the p-matrox card)

Here's some other site reviews of the Pathetic Parhelia.

I hope that will be sufficent. Needless to say, the Parhelia's performance has caused matrox to move it towards their business community, by chopping the core/ram speeds and reducing the ram allotment on the card. (These versions are known as Millenium).
