Can't do Realistic Renderings with Radiosity

Hi i have been rendering for a while for the firm and i do not seem to achieve the maximum realism that my software can offer.

I am using Autodesk Viz 4.

On quick phase rendering projects, I use the following standards:

 

1 Sunlight

1 Omni Light:

-raytraced shadows

-Inverse square

-Attuenation is off

 

Radiosity:

-Logarithmic Solution:Brightness-35

-Filtering:2

 

Is there any standard setting that would help me improve my renderings?

Hello. Welcome to cgarchitect. I believe one of the problems is that you are not using photmetric lights. You are using standard lights. Radiosity works with them both but satandard lights are less accurate that photometric. By photometric I am talking about daylight system too. For the exteriors, I would advise using the daylight system. There are a couple of advatages to this. One is rela world accuracy of sun position throught latitude longitude. Another thing is that a skylight is automatically added to the sun to give ambient light.

 

The next issue you need to address is your radiosity mesh. Typically the smaller the mesh the better the results. However, I find it easier to assign a mesh to seperate objects (floors, walls, ceilings, etc.) rather than all objects at with the same mesh. This can help with render times because small meshes are needed on some objects and not others.

 

Refinements play a crutial role in the whole process. Once again it is better to give refinements on a per object basis. Refinements help to smooth out the bumps, for lack of better words.

 

You also need to work on textureing. Scale issues on your grass. Also the brightness of the grass in one of your images is off. You can adjust this by going into the bitmap of that material and go in to the output dialog box. Here, enable the color map and lower it from 1.0 to say 0.5, and go from there.
