mwhite
Happy Valentines Day! Nice rendering! I like everything except the stem material. Perhaps a bit to shiney - or maybe not. I haven't seen to many of the real thing but it looks a bit to smooth and/or shiney to me. Thanks for showing us some new content from Maxwell. I'm very interested in that rendering engine. Fran
Thanks Michael. I toned down the stem material some and updated the post. Hi. My name is Frances and I'm a Maxwellaholic. Help me.

mwhite
Nice update - was it just a matter of changing settings in a dialog box, or is it more complciated than that with Maxwell? Maxwellaholic - Oh, no now I've got this tempting me and my new dual xeon (which should make the alpha render times at least tolerable) and I haven't even learned Vray yet. At the current moment I need a new CRT monitor and more sleep rather than another learning curve. However, that may change once the wife and 4 year old go to Europe for the summer and I can live at my computer with no sleep. Please keep tempting us! Tim Nelson
Hi. My name is Frances and I'm a Maxwellaholic. Help me. So seriously, you've been doing a lot of testing with Maxwell. Do you think you'll be switching over to it soon for your real jobs? I'd love to join the bandwagon, but I feel like I'm finally beginning to get a grasp on Vray and am getting more comfortable with it the more I use it. How long did it take you to learn Maxwell and do you see it as a viable solution to architectural renderings in the future? I've seen some great images from it, but I also know there are still a lot of limitations. Sorry to get so serious! But you obviously like Maxwell, so I'm just curious if you could give us a brief summary of your thoughts. Thanks!
bigcahunak
TNX Fran, and... I actually remembered it this time (Valentine's Day that is...) Yeah, waiting to hear your thoughts on your new addictive toy as well.
Fran
Nice update - was it just a matter of changing settings in a dialog box, or is it more complciated than that with Maxwell? It's not complicated at all. The flower stems are a Maxwell Plastic material. You edit the materials in the 3ds Max material editor (although the samples render black at this time, Maxwell will eventually have its own ME). I just reduced the saturation of the green a bit and increased the roughness parameter. Ernest, have you considered getting the max trial version and getting Maxwell now? Once you purchase the program, you can get as many versions of the plugins as you want for free. Like, get the max plugin now and when the C4D one is available, you can get that one too. I'm looking forward to testing the Rhino plugin when it's available. Tim, Maxwell for production? No way - VRay! BTW, this image rendered in 30 min. at 800x800. I was experimenting with camera settings and tone mapping.

Or you're just walking around the store in new shoes try to see how they fit?
Ernest Burden III
Fran I suppose I could do as you suggest, but then I'ld have to use Max, which sounds icky-poo-poo to me. However, I am starting a new project yesterday (or so thinks the client) where either Maxwell or vRay could come in handy. I have five weeks. What do you think are my chances to get the Cinema Maxwell before then?

My wife found one, as well. Just don't let the happy occasion pass without sharing the date with your friends here!
STRAT
ah, dont worry about it. you'll definately know about it in advance officially we're thinking about a date in about 1.4 years time (for specific reasons i cant divulge) but we're off on a vacation to NewZealand in a month or so and there's a possibility we might do the deed over there. watch this space
