garethace
Ever think MAX will have GPU raytracing in our life time guys? Or would be very useful if one had gpu raytracing. I just have noticed an interesting discussion about the subject here: http://www.aceshardware.com/forum?read=100020125
Christopher Nichols
I predict that GPU raytracing will be out in 1 to 4 years. GPU's can cast rays a LOT faster than a CPU.
garethace
Well i know that gpu design has the easier situation of most of its tasks being very parallel in nature - most of the bottleneck can and does occur at the memory stages, and the connection between memory and gpu. So while processing technology for gpus is a little far behind that of modern cpus, opting for older and therefore cheaper, easier, high profit manufacturing - you will tend to see 'the most expensive, new and untested' memory standards on gpu cards.
