hyper threading and scanline rendering HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My 2.66 Ghz HT machine is slower in scanline rendering with radiosity and regathering than my 1.7 Ghz without HT. The task manager indicates a full processor use on my 1.7 machine but only around 50 to 60 on my 2.66HT machine... Whats going on?? And ofcourse, how to solve this...

I'm running Win2K on both machines with the latest updates etc... The strangest thing is when I look in my bBIOS of that 2.66HT machine it says it has a 1.3Ghz processor, and this is also what it says when looking at my machine specs under windows.... STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!

I've downloaded the program you said, and these are the results:

Intel® Processor Frequency ID Utility

I think those guys at the compshop put a 800Mhz processor on a 533Mhz board...

My 3.06Ghz is on a P4P800 deluxe from asus and that one reports:

Intel® Processor Frequency ID Utility

Quizzy!!!!

You forgot to set your Front Side Bus!!!!

Its set at the default speed!

Go into your computers bios at bootup and look for somewhere to set the front side bus.

I don't know what board you have, but 400 megahertz is default for intel chips, with 533 or 800 being full speed.

I'm assuming its a 800 FSB system as it would explain the processor clock being halved.

If you need assistance with changing the frequency, do post your motherboard info.

Hey Gregster,

I figured it out. My board simply didn't support 800 Mhz FSB. So I bought a new board. The thing was that those people at the compshop taught that all HT processors are 800 Mhz FSB, which is not true. There is one exception: 3,06 Ghz HT. Now that processor worked fine on my 533FSB supporting board but that new 2.66 HT runs on 800 and they put that one on that board... I thaught that compshop people knew their stuff... Well: NOT!! Quizzy had to explain it to them. I've installed my 3.06Ghz/533SB on a 800FSB board now, and it has that 400Mhz DDR but I suppose that if my processor is running at 533, the memory cant run on 400 but on 333.. Ah well, only thing I have to do is to buy a HT processor with 800FSB. And install that 3.06 on my old intel board, buy a harddisk, cd-rom, memory, and there we go.... Another cheap renderslave ;)
