Modeling roads and pavements with spot heights

I remember a while ago that there was a thread about different techniques for modeling the areas aroud a building. Can anyone point me towards this thread? I can't find it :rolleyes:

 

I have a new project that I have a lot of height data for the sight and need to model it in max very accurately. Anyone got any good tips?

 

I dont like to use shapemerge I find it very messy.
