IC
I moved into a rundown Victorian Upper Villa last summer and every room has been refurbished in a traditional, sympathetic way and only the Family Room is still to be done. Now I'm getting kicked out of the Study so we can have a third bedroom and the only place for me to work is the Family Room so I'm thinking of a more contemporary look for this Dining/Work/Sitting area. Let me know of any comments on the design or rendering you might have....... Thanks p.s. the imac is my wife's idea-she doesn't want an ugly old PC in there. We'll see. I think I might've shrunk it-I've never even seen one!
mohamedberry
Iain first of all, u did a great work here... but some comments: about the design, the purple color give a feminine feeling to the room.... the TV is a bit small, and not directed to the sofa... i love your stainless spots but i think its a little bit big. about the rendering, looks fine but small things like the huge refraction in glass, some sofa edges are black... everything is is just fine;)
IC
Thanks Mohamed The TV is that size. I have the TV, sofa and dining table/chairs already. The TV is on a pivot bracket so it can be turned. About the effeminate colours-I have a wife and two young girls! Not much choice in that field. I had everything white originally The idea is I'll be teaching the girls how to use the computer here so it can't be too stark.
voltaire_ira
i think the imac's base is white in color..i haven't seen a chrome base for it. The purple color really makes the room feminine. great lighting m8t1
4DM
Iain, You'll have a job finding one of those old iMacs This is the latest one, and is far better, with a G5 processor and 20' TFT screen available. If you want to know more you can look here: http://www.apple.com/uk/imac/ If you're using it for work though, I'd get the Dual 2.5GHz G5 ( with 30" TFT screen, if you can afford it!) Cheers, Danny. Crazy Homeless Guy
it doesn't feel like a workspace, just a space where the family can log onto the computer to check email and that type of thing. what about the basement, do you have the rights to that? ...or maybe a large attic that can be utilized. IC
Yeah I saw the new imac Danny but I had a model of the old one (and it does look good for viz). And no, I can't afford the basic imac never mind the dual processor or the powermac. Far too expensive! No wonder everybody sticks with their beige box PC! Travis, its an upper villa-that basically means a single storey house and you only get the upstairs. Attic isn't convertible either.
4DM
Sounds a bit intractable for now, I can see. Altough an iMac looks pretty portable, how about eventually thinking about a laptop? - then you can work in whichever room isn't occupied at the time? Presumably once the kids get home from school, that family room is going to be hard to work in - you might want to put a desk in your bedroom for those times? Luckily we have only reproduced once! I would have the same problem as you otherwise. These high UK property prices make it damn hard to expand your horizons, don't they? And London is probably even worse than Edinburgh. D. IC
I'm sure London is worse but I can't imagine by much. Edinburgh prices are extortionate-at least in London you get paid more (or is that debatable? ) I'm not too bothered about losing the study. I'm planning to do a lot less work at home now that the kids don't go to bed as early. It's important to spend some time with them when I am there. Laptop might be an option-I could lower the TV and plug it into that! Hmmmm Thanks everybody.
IC
Decided to go down this route so we've looked into it a bit more and I updated the model and scene last night. Did a quick night version and my vase must be light reactive...............
