jackb602
This is the first pass at a couple of renderings for a museum. I'm having a hard time with these images, partly because of the materials. One wing is a bright glossy white, almost like a refrigerator, and the other is a slightly glossy black. I'm going to play around with the materials some more, but I could definitely use any and all feedback on these images. Thanks, Jack
STRAT
Hi Jack great start. integrating a glossy white and a glossy black buildings together is never a straight forward task. the black usually poses the biggest problems. being as it's still WIP and ur experimenting, how about maybe a HDR map for the skydome, with some reflectivity in the black? and a high tight specular maybe? the lighting looks awfully flat at the moment too. no contrast. also, this is a nice oportunity to use some c4d SPD for the grass, if render times permit keep us updated
jackb602
Hey Strat, An HDR map for the skydome sounds like a good idea. I'll probably use it for reflections only, because I'm using Ozone for my skies, and I like the flexibility that gives me. And you're right about the low contrast. I was experimenting with some fog in my Ozone atmosphere, and I think that might be what's killing the contrast. Another thought would be to use the HDR for all of my ambient lighting, with Ozone used only as a fancy sky shader. I've never been comfortable with Ozone's cryptic settings; I'm never really sure what they're doing. One thing I didn't mention is that both of these renders were done in stochastic mode (128 samples), and that makes me think I could get a good result using HDR lighting. You know, I tried experimenting with some SPD grass, but it REALLY slowed things down. You posted some great grass presets a while ago; would you mind sharing them again? In the long term, I'm interested in trying out StormTracer for grass. Maybe after I get paid for this job. Thanks for the comments. I'll probably post more over the weekend. STRAT
Frosty keeps telling me about Ozone. i've tried the demo and been well impressed. must get my boss to buy it for me real soon. Stormtracer is another thing i'd like to try out. dont think thats on demo though as for the spd grass? yeah, i remember those pics i tested (not on my server anymore). they were litterally a grass bitmap chucked in the channel slot with minimal displacement settings applied. thats how easy and flexable c4d's spd is. altho, if you're using stoch mode rendering i'd forget it btw, why use stoch mode? jackb602
Well I just turned in the project today and got a great response from the client. Hopefully that means more work from them down the line. Your crit was a big help Strat, so I thought I'd follow up and post the final images.
