dimopoulos_d
Try this.... Create 3 spheres. Create 3 materials with different name and asign in each sphere...Save the max file and then merge it back in itself and select use scene material... At the material browser (browse from scene) you should see only 3 materials....but that doesnt happen... do you know anything about this? is it a bug? Ricardo Eloy
Tell me... when you merge it back, do you choose "use scene materials"?
dimopoulos_d
Yes. And i suppose that it should merge the extra objects and asign them the 3 materials that are already assigned to the initial spheres.... Instead i now have 5!? materials. 4 of them assigned to a shpere and the fifth assigned to 2 spheres....it makes no sense... I tried the same with grouped shperes, with spheres with different name, with materials created and assigned with a different way....nothing... dimopoulos_d
I found this problem when I tried to merge individual buildings (with the same materials) in a residential complex. I have done this before (not in max7) and I dont remember having any problem....
BSArch98
When you select use scene materials, do you have the check box "apply to all duplicates" checked? Try it without checking that box, and click the "use scene material" button for every dupilcated material. If you do each material individually, it should correctly use only the scene material. For some reason, it only uses the scene material with the material that is showing in the dialog box (thus getting five materials instead of six or three). It will not correctly use the scene materials for the rest of the merged scene. I am not sure if it's a bug or not, but I duplicated your results on MAX 6...and I fixed it by doing them all individually.
dimopoulos_d
Thanx Christopher. You are right! it works in this way.... In the meantime i found a very good script from blur studios in scriptspot.com, that clears duplicate materials...(KillDuplicateMaterials 1.00) thanx a lot!
