raterry
Hello all, I've been lurking here for months trying to absorb all the knowledge I can from your collective wealth of experience. I'm new to the architectural rendering world but am fairly proficient using MAX 5 (I know I need to upgrade) This rendering is far from complete as in adding details but I would like for some critique/advice as how to get the lighting a little better. I've been playing around with the exposure control settings, etc. but I seems that the shadows are too dark on the right side of the house. Settings: Radiosity Refine:2 Filtering:5 Logarithmic,Brightness:80,Contrast:65 Also, is there a way in the radiosity override mat, a way to lower the luminosity of particular objects that seem to get blown out? ie. the shutters? Thanks for all your input. -=Rob

raterry
Thanks, ipdesigner. My initial quality which defaults to 85 is grayed out so I can't change it...Any ideas? Also, Can I get some input on this updated image? It's my first house render and I'd like to hear what my peers think. I'd appreciate any and all comments. -=Rob
STRAT
i'd take a closer look into radiosity m8, it looks completely non existant in those images.
raterry
Strat, It does look like there's not much radiosity. Problem is, the house is that dark green color so in order for it to look dark green and not a light lime green, I had to put a RGBtint material over the base color so to the naked eye the green looks almost black. It kindof works over the area where the sun is shining but it makes the shadows so dark it looks like there is no radiosity...Any idea what I may be doing wrong? -=Rob
vertexART
Hi there, is the model scaled correctly? Radiosity will only work with real life measurements, unfortunately. As for your materials being over bright or over dark, a solution might be 'exposure' tweak.. Another option is to use Radiosity for interiors only, and LightTracer for exteriors. Hope it helps
raterry
OK, thanks. I'll see what happens when I use light tracer. Is that a general rule of thumb to use that for exteriors? and not radiosity? -=Rob

vertexART
Is that a general rule of thumb to use that for exteriors? and not radiosity? No not really a rule, just a suggestion. I know I've read it somewhere. Maybe in ipdesigner's friend post.. Cheers
